What is heatshield and how does it work?
HeatShield Cerfractory is a high temperature refractory cement with ceramic for added durability and heat dissipation properties. HeatShield has undergone extensive testing and has proved to be a very reliable alternative to relining of the chimney flue. For more information on testing please check out HeatShield website.
After it is determined that the flue has been compromised, the technician will determine if HeatShield is a good fit for your system. Exact measurements will be taken of the flue so a block can be made for your exact sizing needs. Once your block has been made the product will be applied using a winch connected to the block. After the block is in place they will pour the cerfractory from the top of the flue on to the block. Once the product reaches the desired level they will begin to crank the winch which will cause the product to adhere to the inner walls of the flue. Depending on what type of application is needed two passed may be done.
Is HeatShield Cerfractory Right For My Chimney Flue?
In many cases the answer is yes. Unfortunately, there are limitations to the product. If your chimney flue is missing mortar joint, has cracked tiles, spalling of the tile, and in some cases lack of tiles, its a fit. If the system has flue tiles where an entire side has blown out, or large holes, it is not. When our technicians come out to your home this will all be determined and discussed on site. All in all HeatShield is a very versatile and reliable product when installed by a Certified installer.
