Furnace Flue Liner Installation, maintenance, and service

Furnace flues are often one of the most overlooked part of your HVAC system. That is until something goes wrong. This happens to be a very scary thing as furnace flues are used to vent the poisonous gasses from your home. The furnace flues can become blocked or damaged causing carbon monoxide to enter your dwelling.

What is a Furnace Flue?

Furnace Flues are generally made of either clay flue tile or metal pipe. If your furnace flue vents via clay flue tiles it is most likely housed within a chimney. When the furnace flue is vented via a metal pipe it can either be housed in a chimney or through the roof using a b-vent pipe.

WHY DO I NEED A FURNACE FLUE LINER?

Liners are needed for a few different reasons. When the current flue is over or undersized, separations in the flue, or broken and cracked flue tiles. The easiest ones to explain are broken/cracked flue tiles and flue separation's. If this problem is present it can allow gasses to escape in to the cavity of the chimney or even worse the dwelling. Furthermore, the gases that escape in to the chimney can often cause major issues with the masonry of the chimney. When a flue is undersized this will cause the gases to backdraft in to the home. This is due to the flue not being able to accommodate the volume of gasses venting through said flue. Oversized flues are the most common and this is because when homes are built the flues are usually a generic size. Oversized flues cause a great deal of condensation leading to cracked or separated flue tiles. In all of these instances a furnace flue liner installation is needed.
