Chimney-Fireplace-Sweeps-Cleanings

Having a fireplace cleaning done is one of the most important steps in protecting your fireplace and chimney from chimney fires. Furthermore, it is a crucial part of the process when evaluating a chimney and fireplaces condition. There are more than 25,000 chimney fires every year in the United States. Resulting in approximately 10 deaths and 125 million dollars in property damage (source US Fire Administration).

How Often Should I have my Fireplace Cleaned?

One of our most FAQ is "how often should my fireplace be cleaned"? The simple answer is every 50 fires, face cord of wood, or yearly (which ever comes first). Unfortunately it is not the simple. The performance of your system. The type of wood you burn, moisture content of the wood you burn. Plus many other factors play a huge role in determining how quickly your system gets dirty. This is why it is crucial that you have your fireplace serviced or inspected. Especially when buying a home or you just haven't used it in a while. At A-1 Safety Chimney Service all of our chimney cleanings come with a no charge level 1 chimney inspection. This will help us evaluate any performance issues with your system. Which will give us a good base line as to how fast your system will gunk up.

What is the process for a chimney cleaning?

When A-1 Safety Chimney Service shows up for a fireplace cleaning we will always be in a logoed company vehicle wearing our apparel.ย  We work in two man teams, a technician and his assistant. All of our technicians are Nationally certified with the Chimney Safety Institute of America.ย  The two men will lay down a tarp in front of the fireplace to place the required equipment on. Lights and cameras will be used to evaluate the readily accessible internal components of the fireplace. Including but not limited to the firebox, hearth extension, damper, smoke chamber, lintel, gas bars if present, etc. While the assistant uses rods and brushes to sweep the fireplace flue and smoke chamber, the technician will get on the roof to inspect the exterior of the chimney. The technician will be inspecting the crown, mortar joints, brickwork, chimney caps, chase cover, flue collars, etc.

During the sweeping of the chimney a vacuum will be left running to make sure that no creosote makes it into the dwelling. At A-1 Safety Chimney Service we offer a No Mess Guarantee. We take great care to make sure that your home is just as clean as when we arrived, actually a bit cleaner since we just swept your fireplace.
